A couple of weekends ago, I was out on an adventure with my mom. We headed into Downtown Minneapolis to attend the Twin Cities Women’s Expo. While we were driving home, we decided that we needed to stop for a late lunch. We passed by a lot of places on “Eat Street”, but none of them screamed “Eat here!”. Well, none of them until the Wise Acre Eatery!
The Wise Acre Eatery is one of the hidden gems of “Eat Street”! It is housed in a remodeled service garage that is attached to Tangletown Gardens on 54th and Nicollet! It definitely catches your eye when you are driving through.
When you make your way into Wise Acre, you are greeted by a few friends and some farm fresh edibles that are available for purchase.
The vibe that I got from the restaurant was definitely farmhouse friendly. Even though you are in a garage, you feel at home and comfortable.
Everything served at Wise Acre Eatery is local and most of it comes from their very own farm located in Plato, MN! This is a true “farm to table” experience, or as they say on their website “Plato to plate”!
We stopped in during Farm Hour, which would be the equivalent to a happy hour.
To accompany our Local Cheese Plate, we order the Fritter Of The Day which happened to be fresh, local cheese curds and summer sausage, battered, deep-fried and served with a house-made mustard.
They were perfectly battered, not to thick and not greasy AT ALL! All of the little morsels were crunchy, delicious and almost impossible to stop eating. The cheese curds and summer sausage work so well together and the house-made mustard added just the right amount of tang!
Next, we shared a cup of their Beefy Chili.
We were about to leave until we saw the words Frozen Custard.
My mom and I are ice cream and custard fanatics. Growing up, we spent our summers on the family farm and every year, we made hand churned ice cream for the local Ice Cream Social. So, we knew we couldn’t leave without trying the handmade frozen custard.
We chose the Vanilla Custard with a couple of different toppings.
The house-made Maple Granola and the house-made Salted Caramel Sauce.
This was, BY FAR, the best frozen custard that I have had in a long time. It was perfectly creamy and amazing. The Maple Granola was absolutely delicious and the addition of the dried fruit was delightful. The Salted Caramel Sauce was to DIE for. The perfect balance of sweet and salty, which is my favorite flavor combination! This was the perfect way to end a delicious, late lunch. Seriously, I may or may not have licked those little mason jars clean!
I can’t wait to visit the Wise Acre Eatery and the friendly, knowledgeable staff again!
The executive chef Beth, assured me that even though the seasonal menu may change, she will always have something delicious for us to try!
Next time you are in Minneapolis, swing by the Wise Acre Eatery. You will not be disappointed.
