Growing up, we didn’t have a lot. We didn’t have the cool clothes or awesome toys that most kids had. I mean, hell, we were just happy that mom could pay rent for another month and that we had some kind of food on the table. I can only imagine, the parenting dances of guilt and worry that my mom often danced alone! There was one time of year, however, when all of our hardships went out the window and in came the dreams of all of our wishes coming true and being delivered by the Big Man himself, oh, and his 8 tiny reindeer! Once, I was older and had realized that all of those dreams and wishes, were pressure I put on my mom to make MORE magic happen, I almost died inside and that was the moment that I started to think about The Santa Plan for my own kids!
What is The Santa Plan?
The Santa Plan is a 3 tier program, in which parents can choose whichever tier they would like to employ in their own homes. The Santa Plan is always the perfect way to explain to your children, why some kids get some much and some kids get very little.
Just the stockings please!
This is the tier that my family is on. Santa comes in and fills my kids’ stockings to the brim, with goodies and small gifts.
Santa however, does not leave any gifts under the tree. Mommy and daddy do. This way, our kids still get to believe in the magic of Christmas and we still get the credit/gratitude for working hard and getting them the gifts that they wanted so badly. (I wish my mom had done this.)
We also tell our kids that this allows Santa to give more presents to kids that might not have anyone to give them one!
The Stockings and a Special Gift
Santa sneaks in, while the kids are sleeping, fills all of the stockings and leaves behind, perhaps one SPECIAL gift!
All The Presents and the Stockings Too
Santa has always brought it all and Santa will always bring it all and who the hell am I to tell you to change that! Right?! I’m not telling you to change it. I am trying to come up with ways to level the playing field!
Why The Santa Plan?
Honestly, there are always going to be people out there that can afford way more than others. There will also always be people who will need to show it off.
At least, this way, we have a nice way to explain to our kids, why some get more and some get less. We are all on different Santa Plans.
