I have always dreamed of Californication! I always thought that I was going to move to Hollywood and become a big time actress! I assumed that I would have a house in the Hollywood Hills and that I would spend my spare time traveling to exotic locations in my private jet. Yes, Beverly Hills, that's where I wanted to be. I tried once, when I was 16, but that is a whole other story and a whole other legal charge.
However, at 34 years old, I finally made it to California! I got to cross some big items off of my bucket list and I couldn't be happier about how my weekend mom-cation went!
Now, I will say that my flight down there could have been a little better and my “kid-free” mom-cation was never kid-free, but I loved it all the same.
I flew Spirit from Minneapolis to Los Angeles bright and early on a Thursday morning.

Although next time I fly, I might spend a little more to fly a different airline. I had zero leg room and even though I checked in 24 hours before my flight, I couldn't upgrade my seats, the bathrooms were pretty disgusting, there is no WiFi (I did have my copy of Moms Who Drink And Swear to entertain me) and I had a kid kicking me in the butt and the small of my back for the entire 3 hour flight. Ok, I'm a mom. I understand that kids and kicks are going to happen, but seriously mom and dad, you let him kick me the whole trip?!
Anyway, we landed and headed to our hotel but, unfortunately they couldn't let us check in early. They did give us a map of the area and we decided to head directly to Newport Beach! I saw the prettiest flowers walking up to the beach and then, I laid my eyes on the Pacific for the first time.
We barely got our toes wet one the first day because the waves were pretty high, but boy were they beautiful. Newport Beach, California gave us quite the warm welcome.
I loved seeing the sprays off of the really big waves!
After relaxing on the beach for a while, we went back, checked into our room at the Best Western Plus Orange County and we were greeted by this view!
Check back for more of my California trip and hotel stay next week.
