Ah, Mother’s Day. A day where we reflect on our journey into motherhood. A day where we are reminded that our children made today possible. A day where it is all about you. Well, at least for the first couple of hours or until the kids need something. On Mother’s Day, there may be breakfast in bed, macaroni art, handmade cards and a delicious brunch with your ENTIRE family and while that may be nice for some people, I decided to take a different approach to Mother’s Day this year. Seeing as how Mother’s Day is “all about me”, I decided to take that notion and run with it as soon as my husband woke up. Yep, that’s right. I ran out the door and spent a glorious Mother’s Day, by myself!
I had a nice, quiet and leisurely breakfast at Starbucks, while I scrolled through Facebook and Twitter, uninterrupted! Someone came over and took my plate when I was finished, instead of me picking up multiple plates and cleaning up an obscene amount of crumbs.
I went window shopping at some fancy boutique stores and actually got to look at things! I didn’t have a kid whining about the toy store, asking for ice cream or laying on the ground saying, “This is soooooo boring!”. I got to sip my coffee, take in some farmhouse chic and enjoy the sunshine.
After I was done window shopping, I went to do some actual shopping! That’s right! I got to go clothes shopping, by myself, for myself and I got to try on more than one item! I got to try on multiple pieces and take the time to look at them in the mirror to see if I truly liked them. It wasn’t a snatch it, buy it and hope it fits type of thing. It was real ADULT shopping!
For 3 glorious hours, Mother’s Day was truly all about me! Now, I know that people love spending time with their kids and sometimes, I do too. However, as a stay at home mom, the best gift that I can receive is time to myself.
I hope everyone got just what they wanted for Mother’s Day! I know I did!
