Still trying to figure out what to do for Mother’s Day? Do you get her some jewelry? Flowers and chocolates? Take her out to a fancy brunch? Let me tell you something, because as a mother I know things, these are all lovely ideas and also, completely unnecessary. All a mom really wants, is time. I’ll tell you what I mean while I explain how to create the best Mother’s Day Brunch and Gift combo!
How to Create The Best Mother’s Day Brunch and Gift Combo:
Mother’s Day is supposed to be a celebration on the mother, right? So, it should entail giving the mother what she really wants. Now, most people assume that all moms want to spend Mother’s Day with their beautiful children. Why? Because that is what tradition and society has trained us to do. However, after spending almost an entire Mother’s Day WITHOUT my kids, my eyes are open. I am awake and I now see it from a new perspective. It is time to give Mother’s Day back to the Mothers.
Don’t worry, there isn’t much to do and, it benefits both of you. The first thing that you need to do is plan out what you are going to do with the kids all day. Yup, that’s right. ALL DAY. OUT OF THE HOUSE. Until dinner time, at least! This benefits mom, because this is part of that “time” I was telling you about and will also be part of the gift.
Here are a few ideas to keep you and the kids busy:
- Go have breakfast in the park. It will be nice and quiet. Plus, after they eat, they can play for as long as they want!
- Go check out the public library or a museum.
- Head to a fun, greasy spoon dinner for lunch or grab some hot dogs from the gas station and head out to a baseball diamond!
- Play catch or tag after lunch.
By doing this, you are giving her time. Literally. You can also give her time, figuratively, by picking up the new Fitbit or Smartwatch that she has been eyeing from Verizon, put it in front of the bedroom door with a note that says, “The house is yours. The children and I are away. Enjoy having time to yourself today!”
BOOM! Without doing anything else, you have already won Mother’s Day. She is melting and swooning. Seriously. I’m a mom, I know these things!
But Wait, There’s More!
In the kitchen, you’ll have her favorite bagels or muffins, some fresh fruit, a fresh pot of coffee, plus a little split of champagne and a little bottle of orange juice on ice. The Best Mother’s Day brunch!
That is how you create the best Mother’s Day brunch and gift combo. You give her Mother’s Day and time to herself.
All that’s left for you to do is, come home with semi-happy kids and maybe, her favorite take-out dinner!
