Over Super Bowl weekend, I got to spend a little time with the “other man” in my life. My, ALMOST, 12-year-old son and I ventured out on a cold, snowy Saturday and spent a little time at the Mall of America. It was all decked out for the big game, but we had tech on our minds.
We were here to check out the Innovative Learning Lab at the Verizon Destination store and we were super excited! Did you know that Verizon has partnered with Project Lead The Way and hosts Verizon Innovative Learning Labs once per month in 18 cities, currently. Each lab can host 10 students per session. There are four fifty-minute sessions throughout the day!
They are completely free and students can register for labs here!
These are the Innovative Learning Labs that they have coming up:
- February 24, 2018– Music Mixing
- March 24, 2018– Code Design
- April 21, 2018– Internet of Things
- May 19, 2018– 3D Printing
- June 16, 2018– Augmented Reality
- July 21, 2018– Emoji Design
- August 18, 2018– Holography
My son and I got to play with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. He got to visit the surface of the sun and I got to take a trip through the streets of Minneapolis. It was really cool!
My little tech guru was also excited that he got to take home his very own QR code and his own set of Verizon Innovative Learning Lab Cardboard Goggles! (Which work with any device, including the Moto Z-Force!)
One of my favorite things, was the staff. The Verizon staff, as well as the PLTW teacher, were all so patient with the kids, all of their questions, requests and quirks! When you have a child with autism, patience is something that can make or break an experience, so KUDDOS Verizon staff! I absolutely love that Verizon is putting tech into the future's hands, by offering these innovative learning opportunities for free! I can't wait to see where they expand to next! Thank you, PLTW and Verizon Innovative Learning, for all that you do!
Do you know a kid that would love this type of STEM learning?
Will we see you at the next Verizon Innovative Learning Lab?
