Growing up, I spent most of my summers on the farm. The farm is located in the, very small, township of Rock Elm, Wisconsin and it is about 45 minutes from the Twin Cities. I always loved my time on the farm with my grandmother, cousins and extended family. That is probably why I have so many homestead dreams! This Memorial Day, we spent time remembering, honoring and being grateful at our family reunion.
When we first arrived in Rock Elm, we headed straight to the cemetery. I have always had a fondness for this old cemetery and it is where my family has been laid to rest for generations! Aptly named, Poplar Hill, because of all of the glorious poplar trees that tower around it.
Not only are my grandparents buried there, but there are so many great old gravemarkers from our family and others! It is really something to see the old and unique gravemarkers.
After our visit to Poplar Hill, we headed on over to Mary’s farm. There were family members from both sides of the farm family. It is always fun to see so many generations all together. There were two new additions on the farm this year, a gorgeous mare named Copper and her, very unexpected, colt named Nugget. They purchased Copper and had no idea that she was pregnant!
It is always fun to see the pure joy that happens when you put city kids on country horses!
Of course, the views on the farm are second to none. They can truly take your breath away and are so peaceful!
Nothing beats a great day spent on the farm!
