There is a lot of pain in the world.
There is a lot of tragedy.
There are a lot of broken people and I am one of them.
You may not even realize that someone you know is living life while broken, we tend to get pretty good at hiding it. Our pain blends in to our day-to-day life and we move on because we have too. It’s all we know. Living life while broken is all that I know.
I have been broken for a long time and I don’t think that I will ever truly be “fixed”, nor do I necessarily need to be “fixed”. However, there are times when I need to be treated a little more gingerly than others, or I might shatter again.
Living life while broken is more difficult than it may seem. For me, it’s like walking on a balance beam. It’s not too high off of the ground, but I don’t have the best balance and my feet are pretty big, so I stumble a lot. I also fall, and when I fall, it may take me a little longer to get back up because I have years of glue that needs come up with me. Have you ever picked up a glass plate or a pitcher that has been broken and then, lovingly put back together and noticed that it has a little more weight to it? Now, imagine it breaking and being fixed over and over again. That is how I feel about myself.
Now don’t get me wrong, I know that I have people who love me and I know that I have people who care. I also know that I have been taking more care of myself lately than I ever have, but the fact remains that I am still broken and can easily fall apart.
I think that people see my heavy exterior with my strong lines and expect me to be able to weather any storm, but in all actuality, those are the very things that weaken me. I think that sometimes, I forget how weak I am myself. I think that sometimes, I forget how strong I am to be living life while broken.
This year has been a year of self-care and I wanted to share some of my tips on how to continue living life while broken.
Tips for Living Life While Broken:
- Remember that seeing a doctor or getting help is nothing to be ashamed of.
- Find a guilty pleasure and make it your own! (I treat myself to coffee shop coffee.)
- Do not be afraid to take time for yourself. Everyone needs respite at one point or another.
- Take care of your health, mental and physical. (I have been seeing my doctors, taking vitamins and walking my dogs at the dog park.)
- Find a relaxing hobby. (I am totally into the adult coloring thing.)
- Journal, draw, create. Put your feelings into something.
- Take a vacation for yourself! Recharge, relax and reset!
I know that I am not the only broken person and I know that people have experienced much worse. I just know how it feels to live feeling this way and am hoping to help inspire others to start feeling better, even if we are broken.
