Here are some handy tips as to how you can create the perfect gym in your home, including what equipment you’ll need and how you can make it an enjoyable space that you can retreat to.
Finding the Right Space
Firstly, you’re going to need to find somewhere that’s going to provide you with enough space to create your home gym. Spare rooms or garages are often the best places for these but you could also create a gym in your back garden if you use lightweight equipment that you can store away at night. You could even borrow a bit of space from your lounge for your equipment – and this will let you watch the TV whilst you’re working out too!
Create the Right Atmosphere in Your Fitness Space
When you’re working out at home, it’s important that you feel motivated in the space you’re working in. Otherwise, you’re likely to find excuses as to why you’re not going to exercise. So, try to make sure your fitness space is light and airy, ideally placing your equipment near to doors or windows. Plants are also a great way to boost the oxygen levels in this space, helping your workout, so try to place things like bamboo palms, ferns and spider plants in your home gym.
You should also try to de-clutter this area, if you can, removing any gadgets or papers or anything else that might detract your attention during your workout. And it’s also worth considering placing some mirrors in your gym as these help you to instruct yourself as you watch your movements (great if you’re doing yoga, for example). Equally, they also help to add to the space in your home, making this area feel much bigger than it actually is.
Choosing the Right Equipment for Your Gym
To create an effective exercise space, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on expensive, bulky equipment. Instead, you just need to find the most effective pieces of small equipment for you and your routine.

You can then team these pieces with smaller things such as jump ropes and dumbbells.
