I recently went through the car shopping and buying process. There is so much that goes into finding that perfect car. Especially, when it is going to be your new family car. Like any parent, the safety of my kids and my family comes first and that definitely extends to car safety.
I have to say that during my research, I was quite surprised to find out that companies, like CarMax, sell vehicles with open recalls, which in my mind, is a disregard for customer safety. You can read the press release here.
“Many of the recalled vehicles CarMax offers for sale cannot be repaired, because the manufacturer has not yet developed a fix, or because of parts shortages – leaving car buyers and their passengers at risk. Most, if not all, auto manufacturers require their franchised car dealers to refrain from selling defective recalled cars, pending repairs. It may take years before enough repair parts are available to repair recalled cars such as the more than 100 million vehicles worldwide with Takata airbag inflators that need to be replaced before 2019.”
I don’t know about you, but that is not the kind of car safety that I want to buy into. I would much rather shop for recall-free cars like those sold by AutoNation.
The last thing that I want to worry about when I buy a new car is an open recall, safety hazard or something that is possibly not repairable!
Buying a car is a big decision and a big purchase. Make sure you do your research and shop with a reputable company!
