We held off on medicating our boy as long as we could. We didn’t want to medicate him. When his behaviors escalated at school and became severe, we decided it was time.
He has been on medication for less than a year. Luckily, I have been able to keep him on the lowest possible doses of his medication, despite the doctor’s opinions.
We realized that the large school environment was triggering/altering his behaviors. It just was not a good fit for him. Now that we have made the decision to do online homeschool, we have also decided to wean him off of his meds.
He has always been manageable at home and in smaller social settings, so I see no reason to continue to medicate him if he may not need it.
Hopefully, he can learn to adjust and function without the meds! If not, then his body will be cleaned out and we can start with a clean slate.
My boy is so special to me. He is intelligent, goofy, charming, caring and completely unique! I have never wanted to change him. I want him to be himself, always!
